Many thanks for the excellent blogging site at Digital Urban for this posting.
It is simple to use - go the the main page of the Thematic Engine and select a required indicator - we picked Population. You can then choose your technique of mapping - we chose Prism - and date etc. Its self explanatory with a KML provided to open in Google Earth.
Importing these .kml files to Google Earth is quite easy - I've been playing about with the Shape2Earth software application that allows the user to convert shape files to a .kml format. Although this video looks like the 'cutting edge' of interactive GIS the technology behind it has been arround for for a few years now !!!
Just discovered this niffty bit of desktop 'eyecandy' - it basically creates 6 desktops which can be toggled via a spinning 3D cube in Vista . I had thought this was only possible through the Linux based operating system (Beryl) - It needs a pretty powerful graphics card to run smoothly.
I wasted many hours playing these games......Go on and click the START button. So here's you chance to take a trip down memory lane and play a fully functional flash version of the classic 'Sonic the Hedgehog' - Just follow the instructions and you'll be hooked. I'm trying to find a flash version of the ZX Spectrum Trashman.
Using freely available UK data on hospital admissions and combining the new Google Motion chart tools it was really easy to create this interactive time series chart. Click on the dots to identify the Primary Care Trusts and click the arrow to run time motion analysis. Its a bit mind blowing exploring all the variables at first - but please play about and for those geeky enough to understand the dynamics and interactions its a fascinating tool for any epidemiologist.
Tip...... Select SIZE and COLOR as the same......then play about
Its been 5 months since I started this boring blog.......not entirely sure what the aims of these posts were - I guess its a scrapbook of widegts and mashups - examples of Web 2.0 when the computers actaully start generating content from existing content otherwise known as the semantic web. Anyway - so far I've had 1,273 hits (probably 90% from my computer) and thought it was about time start poll.......should I continue this boring blog??? -
